The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter aircraft that played a vital role during the early years of the Second World War. Designed by Sydney Camm and produced by Hawker Aircraft, it first flew in 1935 and became one of the Royal Air Force's primary fighters. Though often overshadowed by the Supermarine Spitfire, the Hurricane accounted for the majority of RAF victories during the Battle of Britain. It featured a rugged, partly fabric-covered structure that made it durable and relatively easy to repair. Armed with multiple machine guns or cannons depending on the variant, it also served in ground-attack and tropical roles. Reliable and adaptable, the Hurricane was instrumental in defending Britain and supporting Allied operations worldwide.
