The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a carrier-based, twin-engine fighter developed for the U.S. Navy and introduced in the early 1970s. Designed for fleet defense, it combined long-range radar, powerful variable-sweep wings, and a two-seat cockpit that paired a pilot with a radar intercept officer. Its AN/AWG-9 radar and AIM-54 Phoenix missiles allowed the Tomcat to track and engage multiple targets at great distances, giving it unmatched reach in its era. The aircraft's swing wings provided both high-speed performance and excellent low-speed handling for carrier operations. Renowned for its agility, striking profile, and combat effectiveness, the F-14 served in roles ranging from air superiority to precision strike. Retired by the U.S. Navy in 2006, it remains an iconic symbol of American naval aviation.
