Adolf Galland (1912-1996) was one of Germany's most prominent fighter aces during World War II and a leading figure in the Luftwaffe. He began his military career in the 1930s and first saw combat during the Spanish Civil War. During World War II, Galland became a highly successful fighter pilot, credited with 104 aerial victories, primarily against Allied aircraft on the Western Front. Known for his bold tactics and strong personality, he rose rapidly through the ranks and became General of Fighters in 1941, overseeing Germany's day fighter forces. Galland was an advocate for advanced jet aircraft, including the Messerschmitt Me 262. Later removed from command after disagreements with Hermann Göring, he finished the war leading a jet fighter unit.
