A soldier of the British 24th Regiment of Foot during the Zulu Wars was a Victorian-era infantryman serving the British Empire in southern Africa in 1879. Wearing the distinctive red tunic and white pith helmet, he was armed primarily with the Martini-Henry rifle, a powerful single-shot weapon. The 24th Foot fought in harsh terrain and extreme heat against the Zulu Kingdom's disciplined warriors. The regiment is best known for its role in the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, where its soldiers displayed both tragic vulnerability and remarkable courage under overwhelming conditions.
