Used immediately before and during World War II, the Westland Lysander was a British army co-operation and liaison aircraft. Its main role was to place and recover agents from behind enemy lines, particularly in occupied France. The British army names their aircrafts after mythical or historical military leaders, in this case Spartan general Lysander was chosen.
