Goddard. Celebrated for its outstanding service, window displays, and fashion-forward merchandise, Marshall Field's was Chicago's top retailer for more than 150 years. Starting out as a small dry goods store in 1852, it was opened by a New Yorker named Potter Palmer and eventually was named Marshall Field and Company. The department store had a structure like no other, boasting a dazzling Tiffany mosaic dome, Walnut Room restaurants, and a host of firsts, including the first bridal registry ever. 128 pages, 210 B&W photos, 6½"x 9¼", softcover.
