Morrison. Known as the oldest railroad in America still operating under its original name, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) — chartered in 1834 as a solution to trains routing from the Brooklyn waterfront to Greenport — consists of a 70-mile-long track starting in Hicksville. During its heyday, the railroad had 29 passenger stations on its east end with 14 still active today, including Riverhead and Greenport which are locations of the Railroad Museum of Long Island. Currently, the line is being double-tracked as far as Ronkonkoma. 128 pages, 215 B&W photos, 6½"x 9¼", softcover.
