Sharps rifles were a series of large bore single shot rifles that began with a design by Christian Sharps in 1848 that are renowned for long range accuracy. The rifle has become an icon of the Old West due to its use in a number of movies and books in the Western genre.
Our reproduction replicates the carbine version that was very popular with the cavalry of both the Union and Confederate armies and was issued in much larger numbers than the full length rifle. By 1863, it was the most common weapon carried by Union cavalry regiments.
