Description

The Republic F-105 Thunderchief, officially introduced in May of 1958, was responsible for the lion's share of strike-bombing missions during the early years of the Vietnam War. More than 20,000 sorties were flown using the rugged aircraft — which was capable of transporting a greater bombload than the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator bombers of World War II — and was nicknamed "Thud" by its pilots. It was not retired until the mid-1980s.

This 1/48 scale plastic kit, a replica of an F-105D as it appeared with either the 354th or 457th TFS in Vietnam, features engraved surfaces, a two-piece canopy, a well-equipped cockpit, separately molded control surfaces, trailing edge flaps, a realistic undercarriage and wheel wells, fine radar detail, a removable tail, and full weapons complement (including four Mk. 82 bombs, two AGM-12 Bullpups, two wing tanks, and a centerline drop tank). Assembly required. Skill level 4. Measures approximately 16¼" long with a 9" wingspan.
