The EAV-8B Matador, known in Spain as the AV-8B Harrier II, is a key component of the Spanish Armed Forces' naval aviation fleet. Operated primarily by the Spanish Navy's 9th Squadron aboard the aircraft carrier Juan Carlos I, this V/STOL aircraft excels in both close air support and maritime strike missions. Powered by a Pegasus turbofan engine with vectored thrust, it can perform vertical takeoffs, short takeoffs, and conventional landings, allowing flexible operations from ships or forward bases.
