About the AV-8B Harrier II
Developed as part of the V/STOL Harrier family that dates to the 1960s, the AV-8B is powered by a single Rolls-Royce Pegasus turbofan with vectored thrust nozzles, letting it hover, take off vertically and operate from amphibious assault ships and austere forward bases without conventional runways. Armed with cannons, rockets and precision-guided munitions, it has served as a close air support and reconnaissance platform for the U.S. Marine Corps.
