Description
The first turbine-powered helicopter to enter service with the U.S. military, the UH-1 Huey — nicknamed for its original "HU" designation — was developed in the early 1950s to meet Army standards for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter. Beginning production in March of 1960, its first combat was during the Vietnam War where it was ultimately outfitted as a gun ship equipped with rockets, grenade launchers, and machine guns. More than 16,000 have been manufactured and it remains in limited service today.
Designed strictly as a gunship, the Huey "C" variant began production after its predecessor proved inadequately powered to carry weapons and ammunition while keeping up with transport choppers. This 1/48 scale, metal and plastic model replicating a UH-1C features textured surface details, glazed cockpit windows, a well-equipped interior, see-through cabin windows, authentic U.S. Army markings, and rotating rotors. Measures approximately 11½" long with a 10" rotor-span.
