About the 101st Airborne
The 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles" for its eagle-head shoulder insignia, was among the most storied American paratrooper units of World War II, dropping behind enemy lines on D-Day and later taking part in Operation Market Garden. During the Battle of the Ardennes, the division's determined defense of Bastogne against the last major German counterattack of the war became one of its most celebrated actions.
