About the book
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, on the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona, is the site of the U.S. military's large-scale aircraft storage and disposal operation. A number of private salvage companies became established around the base's perimeter, acquiring and disposing of airframes obtained from the military, in businesses ranging from restoring aircraft to airworthiness to salvaging spare parts or smelting airframes into aluminum ingots. Graham Robson documents this history in The Scrapyards, covering the companies and aircraft that passed through them during the 1980s.
