About the German Stormtroopers
German Sturmtruppen were assault infantry trained to infiltrate enemy lines using speed, concealment, and small-unit tactics rather than dense frontal formations, targeting command posts and machine-gun positions ahead of the main infantry advance. At Belleau Wood in 1918, they used the forest for cover and fortified machine-gun positions, but weeks of close fighting with U.S. Marine and French forces ultimately forced a German withdrawal.
