Sioux Warrior vs U.S. Cavalryman by Osprey Publishing is an illustrated study of the 1876-77 Great Sioux War, fought between the Sioux and the United States Army in the Black Hills region of present-day South Dakota and Wyoming.
About the Great Sioux War
Following the discovery of gold in the Black Hills, the U.S. government ordered the Sioux to return to the Great Sioux Reservation in December 1875; their refusal led to a military campaign that brought Lt. Col. George Custer, Chief Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse to lasting prominence. The book examines a series of engagements from the campaign, including the Battle of the Rosebud, the Battle of the Little Bighorn and the Battle of Slim Buttes, assessing the forces, tactics and armament of both the U.S. Cavalry and their Sioux opponents.
