About the SBD Dauntless

The SBD Dauntless was a carrier-based dive bomber flown by the U.S. Navy in World War II, known for its distinctive inverted gull wing and its role in sinking Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway. Powered by a Wright R-1820 radial engine producing about 1,200 horsepower, it could carry up to 2,000 pounds of bombs at a top speed of roughly 250 mph.
