About the F-101 Voodoo

First flown in 1954 and entering service in 1957, the McDonnell F-101 Voodoo was originally conceived as a long-range bomber escort before evolving into an interceptor and reconnaissance platform. Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojets for speeds over Mach 1.7, the unarmed RF-101 reconnaissance variant flew high-risk missions gathering intelligence during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War.
