The Order of the Red Eagle was created as an order of chivalry of the Kingdom of Prussian in 1705. It was awarded to royalty, military personnel, and civilians, to recognize valor in combat, military leadership, faithful service to the kingdom, and other achievements. From 1861 until the dissolution of the monarchy after WWI, the Grand Cross was the highest of six classes of Order of the Red Eagle awarded. Swords were added for distinction in wartime. Some noteworthy recipients of the Grand Cross include Otto von Bismarck, Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin, and King George V of Great Britain. Celebrate Prussian history with this enameled, finely detailed reproduction! 2½" diameter medal, with 12" ribbon.
