About Operation Steinbock
Launched in early 1944, Operation Steinbock pitted the Luftwaffe's under-trained, hard-pressed bomber crews against British ground-controlled radar, night fighters and radar-assisted anti-aircraft defenses. The campaign ended in late May 1944 having cost the Luftwaffe hundreds of aircraft and crews, just days before the Allied landings in Normandy.
