About the Macchi C.205 Veltro
Entering service with Italy's Regia Aeronautica in early 1943, the C.205 Veltro evolved from the earlier C.202 Folgore and was powered by a Fiat-built version of the German DB 605 V12 engine, giving it a top speed of roughly 640 km/h (400 mph) and armament of two 12.7mm machine guns plus two 20mm cannons. Following Italy's September 1943 armistice, it continued flying with both the Italian Social Republic's air units and the Co-Belligerent Air Force through the end of the war.
