About the Shenyang J-5
Known by the NATO reporting name "Fresco," the Shenyang J-5 was a Chinese license-built version of the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17, produced from the 1950s as one of the People's Republic of China's earliest domestically manufactured jet fighters. Powered by a single turbojet engine, it was capable of transonic speeds and was armed with cannon for air-to-air combat, with bombs or rockets available for ground attack; the type also served with allied air forces for decades.
