About the book
The book covers the IV SS-Panzerkorps, a German Waffen-SS corps activated in July 1944 during the defense of Warsaw and composed of the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf and the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking. Commanded by Herbert Otto Gille, the corps remained in combat for the final ten months of the war, taking part in the fighting around Warsaw, the attempted relief of Budapest, Operation Spring Awakening and the defense of Vienna, before withdrawing into Austria and surrendering to U.S. forces in May 1945.
