Stan Stokes.  Lieutenant Paul "Lefty" Holmberg, flying his SBD Dauntless off the USS Yorktown on June 4, 1942, was the first pilot in his attack raid to drop a 1,000-pounder on the unsuspecting carrier deck of the Soryu. That fateful day during the Battle of Midway saw bombers from the Yorktown and her sister ship the Enterprise destroy three Japanese carriers in a matter of minutes.
