Stan Stokes. First flown in June of 1959, the rocket-powered X-15 — despite the fact that only three were manufactured — is one of the most legendary aircraft in the history of flight. It set numerous speed and altitude records, many of which remain standing after nearly fifty years: on October 3, 1967, for example, Colonel William J.
